What is Pilotathon
Cypher Pilotathon and Startup Showcase is a hackathon for pilots. Not pitching a company. Pitching an actual pilot.
The problem it solves is the chicken and egg cycle:
- Startups need a pilot to survive and raise funding
- Corporates have a long qualification process before committing to a pilot
- That timeline kills startups before they ever get the chance
Pilotathon brings both sides into one room and compresses that timeline. Industry leaders sit on the judging panel not just to evaluate companies but to identify pilots they actually want to move forward with.

What to Expect
Startup Pitches:
Selected founders pitch an actual pilot to industry experts and a live audience in a 7-minute pitch followed by Q&A.
Startup Showcase:
Interactive booths where founders demonstrate working technology directly to investors, corporates, and operators.
Industry Hub:
A dedicated space for corporates and investors to engage with emerging technologies and identify the pilots they want to move forward with.

How Does the Pilotathon
Process Work?
All participants in the Pilotathon and Showcase will be selected from public submissions which are open from April 13th 2026. The Pilotathon features startups organized across 4 themes of the New Energy Industrial Revolution, detailed below.
Pilotathon Catagories
Critical Minerals and Resource Security
Sovereignty of the supply chain.
Covers the race for domestic mineral independence including direct lithium extraction, battery recycling, deep-sea mineral sensing, and the processing of rare earths, cobalt, and nickel essential to the energy transition.
Grid Infrastructure and Distributed Energy
Meeting exponential demand at the wire.
Addresses the strain on grids built for a different era through microgrids, virtual power plants, grid-scale storage, and the software that orchestrates it all. Texas's ERCOT grid makes Houston the ideal testing ground.
Industrial Decarbonization and Hard-to-Abate Sectors
Re-engineering the molecule, transforming the process.
Built for sectors that cannot simply plug into renewable electricity including cement, steel, chemicals, shipping, and aviation through hydrogen, carbon capture, process electrification, and advanced materials.
The Future of Industrial Work
Intelligent operations, autonomous systems, and the workforce behind them.
Covers AI-driven operations, humanoid robotics, digital machining, and the tools bridging the gap between reshored manufacturing and the skilled workforce needed to run it.
Pitching
Participants that will be pitching will present their pilot in a 7-minute pitch followed by a 7-minute Q&A session from the judges. Each applicant must designate a pitcher who will present on September 15th 2026. The pitcher must attend the pitch preparation webinar and the final pitch deck must be submitted by September 8th 2026.
Those participants showcasing will only need to submit an application and further requirements will be sent to those selected.
